You may be able to enroll right now

Open Enrollment isn’t the only time you can get covered. A qualifying life event usually opens a Special Enrollment Period — often 60 days.

Lost employer coverageLeft a job or your hours changed? You likely qualify.
Got marriedMarriage opens a Special Enrollment Period for you and your spouse.
DivorcedA change in household status can qualify you for new coverage.
MovedA move to a new ZIP code or state may change your plan options.
Had a babyBirth or adoption qualifies — and coverage can be retroactive.
Turning 65Your Medicare enrollment window opens around your 65th birthday.
Plain English

What all those terms actually mean

Insurance vocabulary shouldn’t be a barrier to good coverage. Here’s the short version.

PPOMore flexibility to see specialists and out-of-network doctors, usually at a higher premium. No referral needed.
HMOLower cost, but you choose a primary care doctor and stay in-network. Referrals are usually required for specialists.
EPOA middle ground — no referrals needed, but you must stay in-network except in emergencies.
DeductibleWhat you pay out of pocket before the plan starts sharing costs. Lower deductible usually means a higher premium.
CopayA flat amount you pay for a service — for example, $30 for an office visit.
CoinsuranceYour percentage share of a cost after the deductible — for example, you pay 20% and the plan pays 80%.
Out-of-pocket maximumThe most you’ll pay in a year for covered services. After that, the plan pays 100%.
PremiumWhat you pay each month to keep the plan active, whether or not you use it.

Common questions

When can I enroll?
Open Enrollment is the main window each year, but a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a baby, or turning 65 — usually opens a Special Enrollment Period of about 60 days. Call us and we’ll tell you exactly where you stand.
Can I change plans outside Open Enrollment?
Yes, if you have a qualifying life event. Medicare has its own enrollment periods as well. We’ll check your eligibility at no cost.
Do I qualify for financial assistance?
Many people do and don’t realize it. Marketplace subsidies are based on household income and size. We’ll run the numbers with you and show you what you’d actually pay.
What’s the difference between Medicare and Medicaid?
Medicare is federal health coverage primarily for people 65+ and certain younger people with disabilities. Medicaid is state-administered coverage based on income and household situation. Some people qualify for both.
Which health insurance plan is right for me?
It depends on your doctors, prescriptions, expected care, and budget. That’s exactly the conversation we have with you — we compare options side by side and explain the trade-offs in plain language.
Can I keep my doctor?
Often, yes — but it depends on the plan’s network. Tell us who your doctors are and we’ll check before you enroll, not after.
Are my prescriptions covered?
Every plan has a formulary (its list of covered drugs) and tiers that affect your cost. Send us your prescription list and we’ll compare what each plan would actually cost you.
