Questions
Frequently asked questions
I'm turning 65 — when and how do I sign up for Medicare?
Your Initial Enrollment Period spans the seven months around your 65th birthday — three months before, your birthday month, and three months after. Missing it can mean lifelong late penalties and a coverage gap, so timing is critical. We'll map your exact dates and walk you through each step.
What's the difference between Medicare Advantage and a Supplement?
Original Medicare (Parts A and B) covers a lot but not everything, leaving deductibles and coinsurance. A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) pays many of those gaps and lets you use any Medicare doctor, while a Medicare Advantage plan bundles coverage (often with drug, dental, and vision) through a network, usually at a lower premium. We'll compare both around your doctors, drugs, and budget.
Do I need a separate drug plan?
If you choose Original Medicare with a Supplement, you'll generally add a standalone Part D drug plan; many Medicare Advantage plans include drug coverage already. Either way, the right choice depends on your specific medications. We check your prescriptions against each plan's formulary before you decide.
Will I pay a penalty if I delay?
Possibly — delaying Part B or Part D without other qualifying coverage can trigger penalties that last as long as you have Medicare. If you're still working with employer coverage, the rules differ, and we'll confirm what applies to you. The goal is to enroll at the right time and avoid any penalty.
How do I choose between all the plans?
It comes down to your doctors, your prescriptions, your budget, and how you like to receive care — and there's no single “best” plan for everyone. As an independent agency, we compare the options available to you and explain the tradeoffs in plain language. The consultation is free, with no pressure and se habla espanol.
